Runescape is getting a lot of attention again recently due to the recent release of mobile applications on IOS and Android. Therefore, there are a lot of new players trying to get a feel for the game and see if they’re ready to subscribe to unlock all the membership perks and unlocks.
For the full impressions of Runescape Mobile and how it holds up with other mobile games after its release on mobile platforms, read about it here: Is Runescape (Mobile) Worth Playing?
Players sinking their teeth into Runescape for the first time have probably seen membership advertised and might want to subscribe to get the most out of the game – not knowing, however, that the beginning to mid-stages of the game are largely the same for all players, free and paid. Therefore, waiting to subscribe is the best thing you can do to maximize your membership time.
So what are the things you should do before and after getting a membership in Runescape (RS3 or mobile)?
- First, Runescape players should complete all of the free quests available in the game, as membership will unlock more quests – doing these free quests during membership isn’t a good use of subscription time.
- Second, a lot of membership-specific skills and quests will require a certain threshold of skills and level that should be reached – since the membership content is quite a bit harder.
- Third, for the people that want to be completionists, completing the free-to-play achievement diaries and challenges before getting a membership is important, because again, membership will have its own achievements to be completed, therefore, focusing on those is more important than the free ones.
After completing all of the above, being a Runescape member makes more sense, as the player has essentially exhausted most of the free content. Also, after being a Runescape member – players should also have a plan to most efficiently progress through the content and skills. Therefore, starting to skill up the elite skills only available to members is a priority – followed by some important quests.
Complete F2P Quests to Prepare for Runescape Membership
Runescape has a lot of quests. Almost over 230 quests in total over the years. However, of those quests – there are about 40 quests for non-members to complete. These quests are quite easy and short in comparison to the member’s quests.
It doesn’t make sense to sign up for membership without completing these quests first, as it allows players to get the skill-ups needed and expand knowledge about the game.
Are there an efficient Runescape f2p quests guide or order to complete these quests? Not really, they’re easy enough to do them any order that you want. However, for the players that do want some sort of structure to help them along – see the list below.
These are the quests to complete first:
- Cook’s Assistant – Easiest and quickest quest to complete
- Restless Ghost – Good boost in prayer level
- Rune Mysteries – Unlocks Runecrafting skill – which is an essential skill
This is the quest to complete last:
- Dragon Slayer – The most difficult of the f2p quests and requires 32 quest points to be eligible to begin.
For the rest of the quests, just fill them in any order in between those quests above.
Skill Up Necessary Skills to Prepare for Runescape Membership
Runescape has a lot of skills and activities to level up. In Runescape membership, there are even more skills unlocked and some of them require prerequisites of other skills to be certain levels. For example, the Invention Skill (one of the most useful skills in the game) requires 80 smithing, 80 divination (member’s skill), and 80 crafting. Therefore, skilling them up beforehand saves the player time from backtracking and wasting precious membership subscription time.
Also, as players complete membership quests, they might discover that the quests themselves are quite hard in terms of combat or it might require certain materials that only higher-level skills can produce. Therefore, preparing your Runescape character for these harder challenges is the best way to keep progression smooth and efficient.
These are the skills to prioritize leveling to prepare for Runescape membership:
- 50+ in all the main combat skills. Meaning Attack, Defense, Constitution, and Strength.
- 50+ in one of the two ranged combat skills. Either Magic or Ranged.
- 40+ prayer
Non-combat skills to level to 40+:
- Fishing
- Cooking
- Mining
- Smithing
- Woodcutting
- Firemaking
- Runecrafting
- Crafting
- Dungeoneering
- Fletching
Why is 40-50 a good spot to get most skills before membership? Because as a free-to-play player, it becomes quite a bit grindier as most of the higher-level spots are locked off to free players. Therefore, if you want to raise a skill further past 50, then membership areas are likely more efficient and faster to level.
Other Things to Complete to Prepare for Membership
Complete Achievement Tasks/Diaries
For the completionists out there, the achievements are a good way to flex your efforts in the game. For completing everything – the game rewards cosmetics, flex items, and player benefits. Therefore, completing all of the free ones available will allow players to focus on the Runescape membership-only achievements.
Have a Good Starting Amount of GP (Gold)
The rich get richer as they say and while membership introduces a lot of different ways to get to gold – it’s good to have a starting amount of gold to either equip yourself for the coming content or purchase materials/items to complete tasks.
A good amount of gold to have stashed up is about 1 million GP. By the end of all the f2p quests and leveling up your skills to level 50, most players should be able to reach this point quite easily.
Tasks to Do First After Getting Membership
So you’ve finally completed everything and are now subscribed to the game? Now it’s time to start planning out and setting goals for yourself. Here are a few ideas that might help towards that:
Most players should just go through the new quests available to them with the goal of getting to and unlocking the Elven City of Prifddinas that unlocks a high-level skilling area. Which unlocks after players complete Plague’s End.
Another quest that most players should start working towards completing is Temple at Senntisten, which will unlock curses and abilities that are a must-have for Runescape’s higher-level boss fights.
Complete Slayer quests if players want to level up combat. Going through Slayer quests allows more monsters to be unlocked to kill and therefore gives more experience for the Slayer skill – also at the same time, provides combat experience. Therefore, this is the most efficient way to train combat skills as a Runescape member.
Unlock the Invention skill. This is Runescape’s first elite skill that allows players to disassemble items and obtain special materials to manufacture devices, augments equipment, and tools. To unlock it requires 80 in Smithing, Crafting, and Divination.
